In 2033, the world will mark the 2,000th anniversary of the Redemption of Jesus Christ — his Passion, Death, and Resurrection. The travelling exhibit “Our Redemption” is a contribution to that commemoration, helping school students in Hong Kong gain a deeper understanding of this tremendous mystery of God’s love through which His Son Jesus Christ renews creation, restores dignity of every person, and gives definitive meaning to our lives.

Questions & Answers

A. About the Exhibit

In AD 33, Jesus Christ was crucified, died, and rose from the dead — the events Christians call the Redemption. In 2033, two thousand years will have passed since that moment, making it one of the most significant anniversaries in the history of Christianity. The exhibit Our Redemption is an initiative inspired by that anniversary — a conviction that the students of Hong Kong deserve to encounter the mystery of Redemption deeply and personally before that historic anniversary arrives.

Our Redemption is a travelling exhibit of replicas of the Holy Shroud (four lightboxes) as well as different instruments of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ. The exhibit travels to Catholic and Christian schools across Hong Kong and is offered entirely free of charge.

Our Redemption is presented by Year of Grace, an association registered with the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong. Year of Grace is dedicated to advancing the understanding of the mystery of Christ’s Redemption among students and staff of schools in Hong Kong. Year of Grace was founded specifically in the context of the approaching 2000th anniversary of the Redemption and is funded entirely through charitable donations from individuals and groups.
The Shroud of Turin is a linen cloth, approximately 4.4 metres long, bearing the image of a man who appears to have suffered wounds consistent with crucifixion. It is widely believed by Christians to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ.

“The Shroud does not hold people’s hearts to itself, but turns them to him, at whose service the Father’s loving providence has put it. Therefore, it is right to foster an awareness of the precious value of this image, which everyone sees and no one at present can explain. For every thoughtful person it is a reason for deep reflection, which can even involve one’s life. The Shroud is thus a truly unique sign that points to Jesus, the true Word of the Father, and invites us to pattern our lives on the life of the One who gave Himself for us.” Saint John Paul II, Address at the Cathedral of Turin Before the Shroud (May 1998)

The Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the shared foundation of all Christian traditions. The exhibit has been designed to be equally meaningful for Catholic schools, schools of other Protestant denominations, and any school that wishes to engage with the Christian story of Redemption. Non-Christian schools with an interest in the subject are also welcome to enquire.

No. The exhibit, transport, installation, dismantling, visitor leaflets, souvenirs, and all teacher preparation materials are provided entirely free of charge to all schools. Year of Grace is a charitable organisation funded through donations. We do not charge schools, and we do not charge students.

B. Logistics & Booking

Booking takes place in two stages. Stage 1 is a brief initial enquiry — completed using this form — covering your school details, contact information, and preferred dates. Once we confirm availability, we send you a Stage 2 detailed booking form covering space requirements, scheduling, and access to teacher preparation materials.

We recommend submitting an enquiry at least two months in advance to secure your preferred dates. During peak periods — particularly the weeks leading up to Holy Week and Easter — demand may be higher, so earlier enquiries are strongly encouraged.

Year of Grace handles the transport, arriving at the school at the agreed time. School personnel will assist with installation and dismantling. The school needs to provide ground-floor access and a parking space for the delivery vehicle on installation and dismantling days.

The exhibit typically stays for one full week — Friday to Friday — allowing all year groups to visit.

C. Content & Teaching

The exhibit is self-guided, with teachers leading their own class through the exhibit. Besides teaching material for teachers, students will be provided with leaflets with a general introduction to the exhibit, as well as of the Holy Shroud. Year of Grace does not provide guides or facilitators — the teacher leads throughout.

Year of Grace provides teacher preparation materials for all age groups, downloadable from this GOOGLE DRIVE. These include a Teacher’s Guide, an overview of the exhibit, suggested pre-visit classroom activities, discussion questions and student preparation sheets. We recommend teachers use these in at least one lesson before the visit. Classroom preparation significantly deepens what students experience when they encounter the artefacts.

Yes. The exhibit has been designed with all age groups in mind, from Primary 1 through Form 6. Teacher preparation materials come in four age-appropriate levels (P1–3, P4–6, S1–3, S4–6), allowing teachers to prepare students at the right depth. Teachers remain with their class throughout and guide the pace of the visit.

D. Practical Questions

Schools are asked to provide: a suitable space (see pictures here) with electrical sockets and power cords; ground-floor access and a parking space for the delivery vehicle on installation and dismantling days; and basic coordination of class visit scheduling during the booking period. Everything else is provided by Year of Grace.

Yes. Schools are welcome to open the exhibit to parents, for example during an evening or outside regular school hours.

Our Redemption is primarily designed for Catholic and Christian schools. However, non-Christian schools with an interest in the religious, historical, and cultural significance of the Passion and Resurrection — for example, as part of a comparative religion or cultural studies programme — are welcome to enquire. We will consider each request on its merits.

Year of Grace is funded entirely through charitable donations. If your school, church, or community would like to support the mission of bringing Our Redemption to Hong Kong’s schools — enabling us to visit more schools, develop new materials, and grow the exhibit — please write to us at info@ourredemption.hk. We welcome donations from individuals, churches, and organisations.
